This web site was developed by me, John Stafford-Langan, as a general web reference for collectors and other people interested in the currency of Ireland. It is a freely available web reference site. As with most websites its contents are covered by copyright laws. And it is a breach of copyright to extract information from this site and to publish it in any other form without my express permission. I know people have difficulty with the concept of copyright where it is associated with freely available information, so perhaps an analogy will help; if you go into a free public art gallery (such as the National Gallery of Ireland), despite having paid no entrance fee and despite the fact that any other member of the public can gain similar access, you are still not authorised to take photographs and publish images of the pictures on display without the gallery's permission. Just because it is easy to copy and paste data and images from this site does not make it permissible. All of the text on this site (with the obvious exception where I am quoting from a stated source or providing a reference link) is my own text. And all the images on this site are pictures that I have taken myself and are in most cases images of coins that I owned at the time of taking the image. In a few cases the coins were not my own and I sought permission from the owner to take the photograph and use it. These are generally unacknowledged because collectors usually don't want their names disclosed nor their possessions advertised. Significantly here, the copyright resides with the image taker and not the owner of the coin. As a principle, I am happy to grant permission to reproduce the content of these pages for non-commercial purposes and I am usually not prepared to grant permission to reproduce any of the content for commercial purposes. The most common breach of the copyright on these pages occurs when people use the text and/or images on these pages to supplement listings of coins on Ebay (or other on-line auction sites). This is a breach of copyright law, is a breach of Ebay listing rules (Ebay VERO rules 4.1 amd 4.2) and is essentially commercial theft. Please do not do it. I will pursue it through Ebay VERO where I can. |
